Greetings! Welcome to our website.
Behind the Bike Sheds is located alongside the scenic Otago Central Rail Trail, snuggled between the Hog Burn and the Taieri River in the quaint village of Waipiata. Behind the Bike Sheds will provide you with a unique accommodation experience in a spacious setting with lovely views of the Maniototo big sky country. We are only a few kilometres off SH85, "the Central Otago Scenic Route" linking Central Lakes with the coast.
For those who have more time to spend Waipiata is fantastically positioned to gain access to the Rock and Pillar range from the western side if a hike up to Stonehenge sounds like you. A short drive in the opposite direction will gain access to the Oteake Conservation Park and take you inside a Grahame Sydney painting, for some off trail mountain biking, four wheel driving or a tramp in the tussock covered Hawkdun, Ida or Kakanui ranges. Picture perfect views over the Maniototo plain and a real sense of being in high country landscape, can be obtained within minutes of the conservation boundary. Perhaps an explore around the Kyeburn diggings and a picnic beside the Kyeburn River is more to your liking. The nearby Dansey's Pass Hotel is a fabulous building worthy of a visit.
Waipiata village provides its own historic story and the Taieri River will provide a fish or two should you wish to try your luck. A short bike ride or stroll away, the Taieri River is a welcome cooling off spot on a hot Central Otago day. The local watering hole, the Waipiata Country Hotel will welcome you with a cool drink, hot coffee or main meal.
Whatever you decide to do with your day, at your request, your host at Behind the Bike Sheds will be there at the end of it with a cold drink and some nibbles for you to enjoy. Indulge yourself with a steaming hot shower and prepare to wile away the evening under the pergola enjoying a glass of something delicious or relax in your lovely cabin with a book and a cup of tea.
